Is the presence of these phenomena in my baby is normal or does it need treatment??

There are many phenomena that newborns go through that parents wonder about and whether they are normal or indicate a problem that needs a specific treatment. In this article, we will review some of these natural phenomena that do not cause concern and do not need any medical treatment:

A blocked nose:

Many mothers complain of a blocked nose in their infant after birth. This phenomenon occurs for several reasons, including the presence of fluid in the upper respiratory tract remaining from the uterus. Also, the frequent crying of the infant helps create more mucus in the nose and airway, this sometimes may make it difficult to breathe during feeding or make a crackling sound during breathing, similar to a child with a cold or cold, so some mothers resort to using saline nose drops or nasal aspirators.

This phenomenon is normal and does not require a specific treatment. The condition may last for several months, but it does not affect the baby's feeding, development, or general breathing. It is not recommended to use any nasal drops to treat the condition because the benefit is negligible and the secretions go away on their own over time.

Secretions from the eye:

There is a small channel that connects the eye to the nose called the tear duct, blockage of this duct is common in newborns and its symptoms are secretions from one or both eyes, which sometimes are severe. The doctor distinguishes between this condition that does not require treatment and cases of inflammation or infection of the eye by the absence of redness in the eye, unlike the case when infection and the whites of the eye remain white.

Eye infections are currently rare in newborns because they receive a protective eye ointment at birth. The blockage of the tear duct does not require treatment with drops or ointments, and it disappears with the passage of time, which may sometimes reach the age of one year.

Green stool:

Stool color is derived from a substance produced by the liver, and its pigmentation depends on the amount of this substance and how long the stool has remained in the intestine. Sometimes the color of this substance is green and leads to a green color of stool, which is normal and does not mean that there is a problem or infection that requires a specific treatment.

Blood from the navel area:

After birth, the umbilical base is in a continuous process of separation until it falls, and during this period it is normal to see a small amount of blood or some yellow secretions. This does not require the use of medicated swabs or antibiotic cream on the area.

Hiccups and sneezing:

Hiccups occur frequently in newborns and may last longer than ten minutes. Also, newborns sneezing frequently does not indicate a cold or infection. The child does not need a specific treatment for these cases and they fade by themselves over time
