The correct way to prepare the baby feeding bottle

baby feeding bottle

Although preparing a feeding bottle for a baby seems easy, but in fact, it requires a lot of care and accuracy to avoid a weakly immune baby, many diseases that may be caused by wrong preparation..

We enclose in this article the healthy steps to ensure proper nutrition for your child and avoid related diseases. The connection to artificial feeding.

First: Check the expiry date and condition of the package

Look for the expiration date or "use before" clause on the packaging, and if the expiration date has passed, you cannot guarantee the quality of the formula. Don't buy or use expired infant formula. While checking the expiration date, also check the condition of the package you put the formula in. Do not buy or use packages that have bulges, dents, leaks, or rust spots, as the milk in them may not be safe to use.

Second: washing hands

Wash your hands well before preparing the milk, wet your hands with warm running water, and then rub the soap on your hands vigorously for at least 20 seconds.

Wash all surfaces on your hands, including under fingernails and the spaces between fingers.

Third: sterilization of the feeding bottle

  • Boil the bottle and its accessories in water for five minutes, use a pot large enough to hold all the parts and cover them completely with water.
  • Remove the pieces from the water using clean tongs.
  • Allow the pieces to air dry.

After the first use, there is no need to sterilize the bottle and its accessories. Simply wash these pieces with soap and water and pat dry.

Bottle brushes and nipples can help you clean nooks and crannies, and you can even use a dishwasher, if you do, consider getting a dishwasher-safe basket to put the items in.

During the cleaning process, make sure that the nipples are also open, hold each nipple upside down and fill it with clean water, then wait until the water slowly drips from the nipple. And remember to clean the bottle of infant formula as well, and before opening a new one, wash the top with soap and water, then rinse well.

Fourth: adjust the measurements

If you are using a liquid concentrate or powder, you will need to add water to the bottle. And check to see if the manufacturer's instructions specify what to add to the bottle first: water or milk. Water is usually added to a clean bottle first to make sure you're using the right amount.Follow the instructions for how much water to use according to the manufacturer's instructions. Adding too little water can put a strain on your baby's digestive system, while adding too much water may relieve excessive amounts of water. Concentrate the formula, which will deprive your child of calories and nutrients.

You can use any type of clean water (from the tap or bottled) to prepare the liquid concentrate or powder. If you like to use tap water but are concerned about the safety of your water supply, or if you use well water, you should consider sterilizing the water before adding it to the bottle:
  • Use cold tap water.
  • Let the cold water run as long as it cools down to maximum - up to two minutes. This helps reduce the amount of pollutants in the water. into a clean pot and boil it for a minute or two.
  • Leave the water to cool.
  • Carefully pour the required amount.

Fifth: Types of milk formulas used

For ready-to-use formula:

  • Shake the bottle well before opening it.
  • Pour enough for one serving into a clean bottle.
  • Use formula only - do not add water or other liquids.
  • Attach the nipple and cap and shake the bottle well.

For the composition of the concentrated liquid:

  • Shake the bottle well before opening it.
  • Pour enough formula milk for one serving into the bottle, which already contains the right amount of water.
  • Attach the nipple and cap and shake the bottle well.

For the composition of the powder:

  • Use the spoon that came with the package and make sure the spoon is dry.
  • Decide how much formula you want to make, following the directions on the package, and note how many spoons you'll need.
  • Fill a spoonful with the powder, scraping the excess off the top of the spoon using the flat side of a knife, not with another spoon or any other curved surface.
  • Pour the spoon or spatula into the bottle that already contains the right amount of water.
  • Attach the nipple and cap and shake the bottle well.

Sixth: He heats formula milk and stores it when necessary

It's okay to give your baby room temperature or even cold infant formula. If your child prefers a warm formula:

  • Place the filled bottle in a sink or bowl of hot, non-boiling water, and let it sit for a few minutes, or warm the bottle under running water.
  • Shake the bottle after heating it.
  • Turn the bottle upside down and let a drop or two of the formula run down your wrist or the back of your hand.
  • The composition should be lukewarm, not hot.

Don't heat bottles in the microwave, as formula milk may heat unevenly, creating hot spots that can burn your baby's mouth. Shake the bottle well and feed it to your baby right away, discarding any food leftovers in the bottle after a meal.

Store unopened containers in a cool, dry place.

  • Do not store bottles of formula outdoors, in a car or garage, where temperature extremes can affect the quality and properties of the formula.
  • If you are using ready-to-use formulas, cover any newly opened jars and keep them in the refrigerator. Discard any formula that has been in the refrigerator for more than 48 hours.

If you prepare and fill several bottles of liquid concentrate or powder at once:

  • Label each bottle and write the date on it
  • Refrigerate additional bottles until you need them, but do not freeze them.
  • Place the bottles toward the back of the refrigerator, where they are cooler.
  • Throw away any leftover formula that has been in the refrigerator for more than 24 to 48 hours.

And if you're not sure how safe a particular package or formula bottle is, get rid of it right away.
